The Nile floods the fields of an Egyptian town

Every epoch plays its own way

The Stone Age is tents, hunters and the first fields. In Sumer you dig clay, smelt copper into bronze and raise a ziggurat. The full game adds the Nile that floods every year, Roman insulae that grow floor by floor, Viking voyages and the omens of the Maya and Aztecs.

The mayor walks among the tents of a Stone Age town, collecting taxes

The mayor walks the city

Press Tab and you are on the street, in third person. Collect taxes from the houses and ideas from the citizens, carry goods to the wonder yourself, set the feast and the entry fee at the storyteller's fire. Time keeps running in both modes, so the town lives on while you walk.

Ur-Nammu
Enheduanna
Kubaba

Real people of history

Finish a great building and its person comes to town: Ur-Nammu, who stamped his name on the bricks of Ur; Enheduanna, the first author we know by name; Kubaba, the tavern keeper who became a queen. From Sumer on, every epoch brings its own three.

And the mayor keeps a Chronicle: short notes on real history that open up as the city grows.
